Founded in 1958, Beijing Aerospace Propulsion Institute is the birthplace of China’s liquid rocket engines (LPRE)
With over 60 years of self-reliant and innovative development of China’s aerospace industry, the institute has developed many LPREs for strategic missiles and launch vehicles. The first generation Liquid Oxygen/Liquid Hydrogen (LOX/LH2) LPRE (YF-73) symbolized that China mastered the advanced super-cryogenic propulsion technologies and became one of leading countries in this field. The second generation LOX/LH2 LPRE (YF-75) keeps the successful launch rate record in China and is one of the four most famous upper stage engines in the world.The YF-77 and YF-75D engines that achieved success in the first flight in 2016 raised China from the list of major player in space to the one of major power in space. The new generation LOX/LH2 LPRE is under development and breakthroughs have been achieved in key technologies. The light-weight, quick-response and high performance orbit and altitude control engines developed by the institute have accomplished many technological achievements and won intellectual property rights which are leading in the international arena. The space temperature control pumps and valves developed by the institute signed up for all previous flying assignments of manned spacecraft and target spacecraft, and are widely applied in space stations, lunar exploration project sand satellites. Hence, the institute has obtained advantages in four aerospace technological fields, i.e., the main propulsion stage engines, upper stage engines, orbit and altitude control engines and new energies and their applications.
Since 1980s, based on its advanced technology of rocket power and committed to technological innovation and scale operation of civilian industry products, Beijing Aerospace Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Engineering Corporation (BSPC) produced many key equipment and products of high quality, including thermal engineering equipment, special pumps, special valves, environment-protection and energy-saving equipment, large-scale petrochemical equipment, and electric test and control equipment. It is a member of the sourcing market of Petrol China, Sinopec, CNOOC. and Sinochem and also an excellent supplier of key petrochemical companies, such as Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd., Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Company, Sinopec Jinling Company and Sinopec Hainan Refining & Chemical Limited Company. BSPC has become a famous brand in petrochemical field and a banner of applying advanced aerospace technology to the key industrial areas of national economy. Its invested company Beijing Aerospace Petrochemical EC and EP Technology Corporation Limited (BAEEC) and its holding company East China Chemical Engineering Ing have achieved deep collaboration in the field of systems engineering, own Class-A qualification for chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical projects and Class-A qualification for special environmental engineering design, and are striving to accelerate the development of energy conservation and environmental protection. As a backer of National Engineering Research Center for Special Pump and Valve, Beijing Technology Innovation Center, and cryogenic liquid propulsion technology lab and hydrogen engineering technology R&D center of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, it gives an overall consideration in regional arrangement, is intensifying technological innovation and makes consistent efforts in promoting industrialization development and application.
We have well-established research and testing facilities for components of liquid rocket engines, liquid and gas flows, and low-temperature media. We have built top-notch high-speed pump test benches, safety valve test benches (for low temperature, air, and steam), an oxygen valve degreasing section, combustion calorimetry test benches, and a civilian industrial base located in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. These facilities form three major testing, research, and validation systems for rotating machinery, combustion and thermal energy, and special valves and fluid control components. We currently have over 1,500 employees, including one member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and nearly 50 experts at or above the ministerial level who receive special government allowances. We have received 13 national scientific and technological progress awards and have achieved over 350 scientific and technological results at or above the ministerial level. We have the authority to grant doctoral and master's degrees in aerospace propulsion theory and engineering, as well as a postdoctoral mobility station.
We have established an integrated military-civilian, market-oriented, and operationally efficient management system. The ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO18001 systems are effectively implemented.
